Joining the Society

Whether you simply want to learn to dance, have fun, or compete then join our society! Joining the society automatically registers you with the Inter Varisty Dance Association allowing you to compete in University circuit competitions - however you of course don't have to compete if you don't want to! The IVDA was set up in 1962 with the aim of promoting and helping university dance clubs across the UK, and as part of that, they have negotiated several discounts from dancewear companies for us to take advantage of. Click here to see their discounts page. All it costs to join the society is just £3.

Reminder:

In order to sign up to the classes you need to be a member of the society. It only costs £3 to become a member. If you are a student this can easily be paid via the Union website. If you are not a student here then you will need to sign up to the society as an associate member.

Please note that all members from last year must also renew their membership before signing up to the classes.

For all students at Kent:

To sign up...

You must go through Kent Union . On the right-hand side of the page, there is a link to 'Register' click on the link and follow the steps to until to reach your profile page (very similar to facebook!).

Across the top of the page there is a number of tabs, click on 'Groups' and in the search type: 'Ballroom and Latin Dancing' and leave type set to 'Both'. Click on Discover, and our society should be at the top of the list so click on 'Ballroom and Latin Dancing Society', and then click on Join.

This will take you to your basket and you can see that you need to pay the £3 subscription fee. The website does this through PayPal, so click on 'PayPal Checkout' this will transfer you to PayPal. Almost done!

Next, register or log in to PayPal and follow the steps to pay the subscription, in the description you will see that you are paying for 'Ballroom and Latin Dancing Society' and the cost will still be £3.

After clicking on Pay Now, you will be taken back to the Kent Union website (OnCampus), take note of the Order ID and the PayPal Reference ID, you may need to present this to the society or to the Kent Union in case there are any problems with recieveing your payment. Mouse over the Groups tab, and click on my groups, and you will be a 'MEMBER' of the society! and that's it you can now join classes!

If you have any problems with signing up or if there are any payment problems go to the Mandela Building, here's a map of the campus ref: P3. The Mandela Building is open between 9am – 4pm Monday – Friday - you must bring your order number.

If you are not a student at Kent:

You will need to sign up as an associate member. This also only costs £3. However, this can not be done via the Kent Union website. If you come along to the classes and we can arrange this for you or e-mail secretary@kentblsoc.org.
